FREE | KOSHA Yoga Training: Info Session with Lora Heiner

While there are many validated health benefits to practicing yoga, it has become increasingly clear that teaching techniques that allow for greater inclusivity along with wisdom around injury prevention are of great need to both existing teachers as well as those aiming to teach yoga in the future.

While there are many validated health benefits to practicing yoga, it has become increasingly clear that teaching techniques that allow for greater inclusivity along with wisdom around injury prevention are of great need to both existing teachers as well as those aiming to teach yoga in the future.

Join Lora Heiner for an information session for an upcoming training in which anatomy, human biomechanics and their intersection with postural yoga will be presented. The program “KOSHA Yoga” was developed by Lora as a result of her personal experiences with injuries sustained from her yoga practice and years of teaching yoga. Relying on her background as a professional scientist, Lora has integrated evidence-based methodologies from functional movement, athletic training and human biomechanics into a modular program. This 20 hour journey will teach program attendees how to analyze yoga postures through the lens of the human body’s kinetic chains along with an understanding of the human body’s joint ranges of motion.

Participants will learn how we are all similar in overarching structure but most importantly how each individual may present with structural (at the level of the bones) and/or functional (how we hold ourselves up against gravity) differences. These hidden unique attributes result in yoga “shapes” looking different from traditional ideals. Instead of trying to “correct” these postures is currently the norm, or inadvertently excluding those who are frustrated by their inability to make the shapes,  the reasons behind the WHY individuals cannot mimic the shapes will be elucidated. Furthermore, techniques will be given to access freedom to generate classes that are welcoming by all body types and shapes. This accessible stepwise program will afford teachers the tools to build sequences inclusive of all, with an increased awareness of safety considerations that are essential when working with the diversity of people who come to the mat.
